Year 13 Self Review

Year 12 Self Review

As and IB student, to accomplish and meet the goals of each area of the ideal IB learner. I still have many aspects of a learner that can be gained, improved, or changed.

As a inquirer, I lack the potential in this ara. Whenever I am skeptical or curious about something , I tend to keep questions to myself rather than stepping up and putting it out so my suspicion can be solved. It is probably because I tend to believe that I can discover and learn everything by myself, and that everything that I discover with my own method is more appreciatable. Even though this does not assist me as an inquirer but it helps me to be a good thinker. Because I most likely to think and attempt to solve the puzzle by myself, it makes me to be a very open-minded thinker. Me not asking for any assistance can does not mean I do not listen to other's opinions. I lack confidence to stand up and stand for what I desire.

I am quite a very expressive communicator. Because I am fluent in Thai, and almost fluent in English. This makes me a very good medium between two language-speaking society. I , most of the time, tend to understand the meaning behind everyone's message behind their words.

Being a thinker can as well make you biased when judging something. Although I have been thought not to judge the book by its cover. It is the action that really matters. For most of the time, I am very fair towards any general topic. But however, as a human being, I may tend to have slight distaste toward something that did not give me a favorable first impression. Therefore , this is another trait that can be improved. By stop judging what I do not primarily like, I can become more of a proper IB learner with integrity , honesty, and justice.

Once again, being a thinker can widen your horizon of knowledge. I sometimes think about global issue in my free time. Why people do this and that and the consequences. however , I'm not a very proactive thinker. What I think I do not tend to take part or make any action toward the issue. This is a point that can be improved by devoting myself more in a global issue by starting from a local scale.

Caring has always been my best trait out of all of the aspects of IB learner profile. I care about the environment and everything that surrounds me, both living and non-living. But when it comes to taking action, I do not tend to contribute to global or large scale issue but rather caring me to my friends and anything that can affects me directly. This aspect of me can be fixed and improved by volunteering more in a service project or any community service so that I can realize the feeling of appreciation by the others.

Risk-takers, this term can also be fully applied to me. I do have a lot of ideas to propose but probably because the confidence issue that I have , I tend to keep the idea the thoughts to myself until I have been asked. Along with the 'Inquirers' aspect, I can improve myself by stepping out more and push forward my ideas and thoughts.

I think I am a very balanced person, I know when to weight the validity of either intellectuality , physics, and emotion by looking at the situation. Perhaps i'm very principled and I cannot stand it when something goes wrong and no one does anything about and I am not in the position to.

This last aspect is the aspect I have to work the hardest on. Because I'm not the type of person to express everything I feel therefore people tend to not know what I can reflect from my point of me but I can be very caring and know exactly when the others need in order to support their learning and personal development. This can be improved by , again, stepping up moe often and be reflective and expressive.

Drama production : The Wizard of Oz

Three consecutive days of wonderful art production by drama students!

What was the activity?
This piece of product was originally made by Victor Flemming and it has been popularized ever since it was created. The story of the production is about a girl who is lost in the munchkindland, trying to find a way back home and her journey was full of wonders. This drama production has made the song 'Over the Rainbow' popular ever since.

What did I do?
My position in the event was a member of pitband who performed each piece of song during each scene. The plays were available for 3 nights but the time every casting member and musician spent to rehearse and practice was much more than that. We spent weekends coming to school to get every single piece of scene and song as good as we possibly could and it resulted in a marvellous performance on the last night which received huge compliments four our outstanding show and sings.
Numbers of songs of the show were played such as 'Follow the Yellow Bricks Road', 'Munchkindland', 'Jitterbug', and 'Somewhere over the rainbow'.

Pitband and the casting members

What I have gained ?

I thought the event went very successful and the feedbacks from the audience was superb. Even though my role as a member of pitband was small but my contribution to make such a great performance was overwhelming me. I feel appreciated for those who have come watch and especially those who devoted themselves to the play.

Notice the odd one out of the backstage crew here ?

Fountain of Life Children's Centre

Little kids playing around the playground before leaving to the bowling alley.

What was the activity?
Fountain of life Children's centre was an orphanage for kids who their parents have been neglecting and ignoring so they put them here at he Fountain of Life Children's centre. Amazingly , and a little bit disturbed, some of them chose to stay at this orphanage rather than being taken care of by their parents and each of them seemed to be ina great health and happy to be here.
What were my aims?
The whole aim of the activity was for other participants to learn some Thai culture that was taught by kids at the orphanage and to share their care to to kids. However my personal aim was to experience how their lives had been and to entertain them as much as I possibly could.

What did I do ?
I was designated to accompany this trip as the only Thai speaker in the group so my job was somewhat like the others, was to experience the way of living of the children, and also help translate when needed but the translating job seemed to be less important during the day because no matter how difficult it was for foreigners and the kids to try to communicate, they still understood each others through smile and mutual comprehension.
During the day, all delegates got a chance to learn traditional Thai culture such 'Wai' (ไหว้) and how differently Thai people used to dine back in the days, and they also learnt how to make a 'Kratong' which was used to celebrate and worship the goddess of the river. And as part of the main theme 'We Walk Together' , we tried to do everything together with them, we had lunch together, after lunch we brushed our teeth together, then we , as a pair, went bowling together, which was something they had never done before in their life.

On the way to the bus to the bowling alley.

Although there were some difficulties in a language barrier, I was the only Thai speaker, this gave me a hard work to go back and forth to translate this and that for whoever called my name but as they day went by, the more I realized we did not really need a translator that much because everything the kids wanted to say had already been conveyed through smile.
What have I gained?
At the end of the day, every kid was still pumped after their first trip to the bowling alley and I could see their smile at the end of the day. This was the sign telling me that our goal was accomplished, our goal to make all the children smile like they never did before was completed and I felt so fulfilled from experiencing their sincere appreciation and later that night I looked at what the kids had and realized that, they only had what they needed and they never asked for more and they appreciate everything they received because it's not about how much it cost, but it's about the thought that counts.
